Dear Future Bobcat and Sister:
Congratulations on your acceptance to Texas State University-San Marcos! I hope you are as excited as we are about the upcoming Fall 2009 semester. Sorority life at Texas State is stronger than ever and we hope to welcome you into such a wonderful community.
Academics are one of the most important aspects of each sorority. As you know, the primary purpose of attending a university is to further one’s education. This is why we have focused on implementing scholastic programs, dinners with administration, and scholarships to aid our women in succeeding in their academic goals. Community Service and Philanthropy are also major components of how sororities are represented at Texas State. Not only do we contribute to our six respective national philanthropies, but we also contribute locally to the San Marcos Education Foundation, The Greater San Marcos Youth Council, and the Hays-Caldwell County Women’s Shelter.
Contrary to what you might expect, most of your undergraduate education will not take place in the classroom, but rather in your interactions with other students. One of the easiest ways to get involved at Texas State is to explore Greek life. In hopes of continuing the tradition of sororities for over a century, involvement in these unique organizations will open doors to certain skills that you will not find in any textbook. The sisterhood, leadership development, and interpersonal skills you will develop in a sorority will help prepare you for the world that awaits you, and you are sure to value the life-long friendships you make through your sorority for the rest of your life.
Texas State’s Membership Recruitment Week has been carefully planned to provide you with the opportunity to learn as much as possible about the sorority community at Texas State. It is our hope that you will join us for this week, so that we can help you to decide which one is right for you.
Joining a sorority is a very important and personal decision. As with any such decision, it helps to have the support of family and friends. As your friend in the Texas State community, please know that the Panhellenic Office is here to respond to any questions or concerns you may have. We can be contacted at (512) 245-1664 or by email at panhellenic@txstate.edu. We can’t wait to hear from you!
