Total community service hours reported by all Panhellenic sororities in the past year: 17,010 hours!
Total monetary donations made to non-profits by Panhellenic sororites in the same period: $107,519.61
The campus and surrounding San Marcos area are constantly profiting from the hard work of the Panhellenic community. The Panhellenic Council sponsors many community service activities throughout the year; these activities, known as philanthropies, can involve members from one chapter or all members of the Greek community, working side by side to lend a helping hand to the population of San Marcos. Most chapters require members to maintain community service hours; yet these requirements are not a burden due to the satisfaction one gets when they have been completed.
During the past year, Panhellenic chapters on our campus raised $107,519.61 and donated over 17,000 hours, contributing much time and energy to numerous philanthropic endeavors. The Greek community at Texas State strives for excellence in this area, and community service will continue to be an integral part of the growth of the Greek community in Bobcat Country.
Some events that our community hosted or participated in this past year include Relay for Life, Bobcat Build, All-Greek Dodge Ball Tournament (benefiting the San Marcos Education Foundation), the Special Olympics, Greek Week School Supply Drive, 4-Square Tournament to benefit St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Greek Olympics CANstruction, and many more.
Still think sororities are just about hanging out or partying? Think again! Each member of the Texas State Panhellenic community is also affiliated and dedicated to a specific philanthropy through their chapter that they work to raise money for throughout the year. Each sorority holds at least one event per year in order to support their respective philanthropies. The sororities will almost always invite fraternities, other sororities and other organizations to participate in their philanthropy events. The various philanthropy events range from sporting competitions to volunteering with children. Some sororities even have the opportunity to volunteer on a regular basis at some of their philanthropies that are local.
No matter how you look at it, there is no denying that our women are committed to making a difference, and we'll continue to do so throughout the coming years!
Panhellenic women took middle and high school students on tours around Texas State to educate them on college life and the importance of continuing their education after high school.
