| Recommendation Letters |
One element of preparation for Recruitment Week that can be confusing is the issue of "recommendation letters." Recommendation letters are recommended, and required by some chapters.
These letters of recommendation are just like a job reference. They serve to introduce you to the chapter, but do not guarantee a bid of membership for that sorority. Some chapters place more emphasis on them than others. Many sororities have a generic template for recommenders to fill out on behalf of a potential new member that can be found on their national website.
Recommendation letters may be written by alumnae or active women of the sorority to which they are addressed. An alumna or sorority woman who writes the letter does NOT have to be a graduate of Texas State. (For example, submitting a letter to Zeta Tau Alpha from your aunt, who is a Zeta Tau Alpha alumna from UT is perfectly ok, but submitting a letter to Alpha Delta Pi from your cousin, who is a Delta Gamma alumna from Texas State is NOT.)
Recommendation letters must be addressed and submitted directly to the chapters, rather than to the Panhellenic Association. It is your responsibility to follow up with your recommenders to make sure that they complete and submit their letters of recommendation in the manner and time required by each chapter. Please contact individual chapters for more specific information.
